Game Alias: eluvialExplorer (same as her Trollian handle)
Lusus: Griffon
History:

Aqilia went through a pretty typical troll larval stage, pupation, and trials, finally emerging from the brooding caverns with her griffon lusus. The hive she had the carpenter droids build her was a short tower, the top level blossoming out into a jumble of rooms at treetop-height in a pine forest amidst the foothills, not far from some of the higher blueboods' mountain castles.

When she was a little wiggler, Aqilia's extremely vicious and overprotective griffon lusus was a huge advantage. Grifmom dispatched the vicious musclebeasts and humanimals prowling outside and scratching at the tower door in the day. But when Aquilia grew older and began wanting to spend time outside, prospecting in the hills, her lusus wouldn't allow her to leave, screeching and throwing up a huge ruckus. Cue strife! Aquila now keeps her lusus locked out of the tower (plus that cuts down on the shed fur and feathers everywhere -- A-CHOO!), leaving Grifmom to prowl outside and sleep in a huge nest on the rooftop. Grifmom largely feeds herself on slaughtered forest beasts, but sometimes Aquilia will run into creatures in the hills that she drags back through her underground tunnels and throws out the window to add to the growing piles of bones on the lawnring. Someday she'll realize that her lusus thought of her as a precious treaure to protect, but that time has not yet come -- Aqilia isn't very prone to introspection, so it might take a little while. For now, in Aqilia's not so humble opinion, her lusus is a huge noisy pain in the ass.

Of course, her other frustration is that if she and her lusus got along better, a griffon would be a great mount for a young troll, letting her fly all over searching for new things to explore in the mountains. Needless to say, that isn't something that will happen anytime soon. But Aqilia does dream about flying, and builds aforementioned ridiculously impractical flying machines inside that she's 100% totally sure would work (note: no, no they would not) if only she could get them onto the roof without Grifmom ripping them into shreds.

However, her main hobby is prospecting and exploring, and dragging home huge chunks of ore. When still quite young, she dug tunnels out into the foothills with her trusty pickaxe and began sneaking out at night to build to her enormous rock collection, which by the time the game starts, is quite impressive and some of it is even valuable.

Aqilia had tried FLARPing and other games off and on but never really got into any of them. Clandestine meetings with a blueblood she'd been hateflirting with on Trollian ended badly when he unleashed a horde of robots to clear out a ore vein she'd been picking away at. Unfortunately he got more than he bargained for when this went past romantic hate for Aqilia and she causing a landslide, burying him and his attempted excavation. She still feels more embarrassed about it than anything, but it was an unpleasant enough experience that there's a definite distaste for starting real romantic entanglements past light flirting; but on the other hand, she knows as well as any troll that eventually the drones are going to show up with their buckets and she's going to have to commit someday.

After that, her interactions with other trolls had been pretty limited for a while. But when she heard about HIC and the mysterious reward for the top guild, she decided to give it a try. Playing the game turned out to be surprisingly addictive, especially the ability to roam far and wide as a Space player, something which was much more limited in the real world. Modelling her character after her ancestor was great fun too. So she began staying up late into the day, playing and helping her guild rise to the top, which is where our story begins...

Personality:

Aqilia is enthusiastically obnoxious.

She loves to get involved in everything, and she's happy to take initiative... maybe a little too happy, all the way through to obliviously headstrong and foolhardy, rushing into a lot of situations where she probably should have waited. This has usually worked out okay for her though: she's pretty strong and hardheaded (figuratively AND literally), and in the virtual world of HIC she takes tanking up her character to be the toughest as a competitive endeavour.

So "friendly" is never quite the right word, but regardless of her attitude (and boy sometimes she's a real shitlord), in almost all situations, Aqilia is at least reliable and helpful. She shows up for raids on time, plows through opponents in PvP to up guild ranking, and so on. The way she sees it, there's usually something in it for her, either in terms of being owed a favour, or just the chance to get into a fight and collect loot. Although she's a little too thick for her helpfulness to be complete pretence, in the real world it's tempered by mild paranoia that someone is going to take her stuff. No troll has ever been invited to her hive, and taking something she's already stowed away and assigned in her mind as “hers” is the cue for blind fury.

And speaking of her things (and the times when she's nothelpful), Aqilia's lust for valuables (precious metals specifically) never stops. Her hive, and several levels of underground caves she excavated underneath, are filled with her collection of rocks – some from veins of precious ore, and some that are honestly complete junk that happened to look interesting. She hoards it all, and in-game the fact that she just hoards items and doesn't make use of them probably irritates some other players to no end. Suffice to say, she should never be allowed to handle anything 'treasure-y' unless people never want to see it again. Even her typing quirk was chosen to emphasize her love of 'noble' metals.

Although she doesn't really believe in the hemospectrum, it's not at all uncommon to hear her spout off casual hypocritical hemospectracism. Even being as close to the blue end of teal as you can get and having had a pretty good deal as far as trollish life goes, the fact that the 100% bluebloods and seadwellers get so much more of everything is the stuff jealousy is made of – and the fact that she can see some of the bluebloods' castles from the top level of her hive, if she uses her telescope, doesn't help. So her attitude wavers back and forth between passive-aggressive smarminess (on the grounds that maybe she can get stuff) and envious fury at higher-blooded trolls. Her attitude downspectrum is milder, although she can really get into acting all high-and-mighty when given the opportunity. As should be obvious by now however, she gets jealous and irate pretty easily.

All that said, she's not the sharpest pickaxe in the shed when it comes to anything remotely related to intrigue and plotting. She's usually completely oblivious when things are going on behind her back, and her own attempts at 'scheming' are blitheringly obvious.

Appearance:

Aqilia has the standard grey skin, black hair, and candycorn-colored horns of all trolls. Her horns arc back in a slight curve before sharply curling back in a spiral toward the very ends. She has an underbite that shows off her lower fangs even when her mouth is closed. Although she has more of a troll-next-door look and isn't particularly tall, she's also pretty strong (enough to haul boulders around no problem although not Equius-level of ridiculously strong). Aqilia wears the usual t-shirt with her ancestor's symbol on it, grey cargo pants, and heavy boots suited to wandering around in the foothills and forest.

Her HIC avatar is basically the same, with one difference: she's alchemized fancy armor like she imagines her ancestor would have worn.

Preferred Classes: Prince, Knight, Maid.

Preferred Aspects: Space, Doom, Breath.

Preferred Denizen: N/A (I'm willing to roll with any of them!)

Prose Sample:

She'd woken up early again out of sheer excitement and logged into HIC to grind for a while, but when dusk finally started to fall, Aqilia pulled off the headset and clambered over the junk scattered across the floor and over to the window. She pulled out her telescoping ocular device, peering out into the mountains and planning her nightly excursion.

But it was so easy to get distracted by looking up at one of the distant flickering points of light on the slowly darkening horizon. A distant star, probably with worlds unconquered around it. She kicked her feet back and forth, dreamily imagining what kind of civilization could be there. Probably some hideously ugly species. They usually were, right? With a grand civilization, all kind of tall extravagant marble buildings and fine art everywhere. Maybe covered in gold leaf. Maybe solid gold even! Ripe for plundering. It'd be awesome to be on the front lines, getting first chance to ransack the planet and carry their exotic treasures back to the Her Imperious Condescension... and of course get to keep some of it for yourself... yeah, that'd be the ticket. Or maybe being part of the strike force that gets to drop planetside first, and showered in medals and accolades for top-tier bloodthirsty conquest--

Her reverie was interrupted by a loud screeching from the roof. “Shut uuuuup!” she screeched right back, pulling her telescope back out of reach just as a set of talons whipped down from above, closing on thin air. “You can't keep me from looking outside!”

This was not exactly true. Aqilia slammed the window closed as her lusus took another swipe at her. It didn't matter. She was going outside, and thank troll jegus her lusus had never found out about the tunnels. One of the new ones came out near a dried-up stream bed and it seemed like a promising place to start searching for traces of gold.

Aqilia captchalogued her trusty pickaxe under 'Fe', and grinned. It was a long way to climb back up the stairs from underground, but she'd had one smart idea lately and it was time to give it a shot. “Here we go!” she said to herself and leaped through the hole she'd carved out in the very center of the floor... and the floor below that, and the floor below that, and son on and so on.

It was an exhilarating couple seconds until she landed with a WHOOMPH in the huge pile of discarded lusus feathers at the bottom, sending white fluff everywhere. Not exactly flying, but it was pretty great, and she pulled herself out of the pile beaming with pride and only lightly bruised. A+ idea, Aqilia, gold star for you.

And speaking of gold... Aqilia dusted off a couple more feathers, holding back a sneeze, and started trotting down the most recent. She had a plan for the night after all!
